I've heard and read very often that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were necessary because they saved the lives of many American soldiers.
I've always found it hard to accept that point of view (also hard for me to see how a life of an American soldier is always more important that that of a Japanese civilian)as there are other accounts that say that Japan was ready to surrender anyway.

Now I've found that there is a book that has an alternative version of these events. I've not read it but I've found this article to be interesting enough.
